Tech : NeXT Cube Demo

Tech : NeXT Cube Demo

http://www.Alfred.TV
READ ME FIRST: In this video, with a run time of 53 minutes, I give a cursory overview of the hardware and operating system centric to the NeXT Computer.

When Steve Jobs was stripped of all managerial rights at Apple in 1985, he resigned and started NeXT.

In the mid 90’s, when Apple was in dire straights for a modern, multitasking operating system, they looked to purchase Be for their BeOS. When that deal fell through, they negotiated with NeXT.

With the purchase, which was for about $500 million, not only did they get the NextStep/OpenStep OS, they also got back Steve Jobs.

The acquisition of NeXT, which was orchestrated by the current Apple CEO, Gil Amelio, saved the company from pending disaster.

So, join me for a some time-travel to 1990, where I will give you a peek at the roots of the modern Mac OS X operating system which many of us enjoy and use today.

Make sure to stay through the credits for the post video bonus scene featuring a Power Mac 7500, an Apple ][, and my nephews, Mike and Chris.

Note: The REASON why this was filmed early on Thanksgiving more was due to my personal and business schedule. It was the only time I could do it in order to fulfill my promise of ‘booting the NeXT Cube’ prior to 2009.

If you’d like to see the raw, archival uStream broadcast, which is a bit light-hearted as I interact with the live audience, please visit the URL below and click on the link for ‘archived videos.’ The broadcast is broken up into multiple parts for easier consumption.

Please note that I did indeed film and edit this video for YOU, my regular and loyal YouTube and uStream subscribers and viewers. I hope you enjoy it.

Bad jokes were kept to a bare minimum to keep the focus on the NeXT Cube. Overall, the performance of the machine was really quite amazing, especially considering that the CPU was a 68040 at 25 mhz with 16 megabytes of RAM!

Christmas Party 2008

Christmas Party 2008

(Quick note: this video is not of my creation.)

This is one of those videos that will go down in history, at least in my eyes. Not only did a huge amount of people show up for our Christmas party this year, but we had a couple very special guests join us. Thank you to everyone who attended!

I would like to especially thank Alfred, Billy, Christina and Richie for the gifts. My family and I are so thankful for your generosity.

This is officially my last video before Christmas, so I would like to wish everyone a fun and safe holiday! Please try not to forget the real meaning behind the holiday you celebrate. Gifts are fun to give and receive, but being around the people you care about is far more important.

Internet Troubles (Part Two)

As many of you may know (if you follow me on Twitter), that I have been having Internet problems for the past week or so. I don’t know if it is Qwest’s fault or my router, it could be either one. But the point Is that I have only gotten, at the most, 30 minutes of good solid Internet connection.

I am typing this on my iPod touch right now, and will add this to my blog as soon as I can. But untill this gets resolved, it may mean no videos or live streams for awhile. I will still be on AIM, Yahoo! And Windows Live Instant Messengers when I can, and I also have a new oovoo account.

See ya later!

Internet Connection Issues

Hey, guys. Alright, Here is the deal. Ever sense tuesday night I have been having problems with my Internet. After doing some playing around, I have discovered that I only lose my connection when I upload something, usually resulting in me having to restart my wireless router. I will be contacting Qwest about this as it is a issue that I need to be resolved as soon as possible if I want to continue live streaming and uploading videos to YouTube. So far if I am not uploading a picture or video my internet connection is fine, so I am not really sure what is going on just yet.

I’m Kind of Back….

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of posts. As you know, my school closed down and I have been enrolled in a online school called Kaplan High School and have now been doing homeschooling for the rest of the year. I decided not to go back to the Public School because their are a lot of lowlifes there. My school disctrict gives out WAY to much homework and I couldn’t handle the stress of going back there.

Now that I am homeschooled you can expect a lot more blog post from me over the next few months and I might even make a Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s videos. ^_^

TWiT Live Audio/Video Feed

Many of you have probably heard of TWiT right? Short for “This Week in Tech,” TWiT is one of the most downloaded tech Podcasts. Well, I’m about to give you two links so that you can listen to TWiT Live and some of the other Podcasts that are done next to TWiT.

The first link is to the video feed, so people with a fast internet connection can watch and listen.

This second link is to the audio feed, which can be listened to if you open iTunes and click on the drop-down menu in the menu bar Advanced>Open Audio Stream… and then copy/paste the link into the text box that shows up.

I’m not dead

Don’t worry guys, I haven’t forgotten about my blog, I just have school and everything else to deal with right now so don’t worry, I will not stop posting reviews and stuff.
